A big smile erupted on my face even though I was trying to “play it cool” and act like it was no big deal.
 
“Awesome. Maybe we’ll break 1,000,” I told my marketing coordinator.
 
As soon as I said that one of my co-workers stopped in front of my desk, “We have a problem. There are too many people trying to register for the webinar. People are calling letting us know they want to register but can’t.”
 
“Why not?”
 
“Well… to be honest, we’ve never had this many people register for one of our webinars. Our limit is 500 so we’ll have to upgrade ASAP.”
 
“Upgrade then! We don’t want to lose leads,” I said.
 
As she hurried away I turned around and stared out the window and smiled again and thought, this is a good problem to have. 
 

 

My name is Josh Monen and that’s a true story about one of the successful webinar campaigns I ran while working as the marketing director for a marketing automation software company.
Prior to my arrival they had been running monthly webinars and would typically get 150-200 people to register.
 
So getting 905 people to give us their name, email and phone number was insane.
 
That was a happy day at the office: for the company, the sales team and for me. We all made a lot of money that month.
 
But why was I able to generate so many leads from that webinar? What led to a 5x increase over the monthly average?
 
…was it the landing page? 
 
The emails? 
The copy? 
The offer?

Yes. It was. Let me explain…
 

 

As a copywriter I would love to sit here and tell you it’s ALL about the copy. That if you just use the right copy in the landing page and emails you’ll get a 5x increase in leads.
 
But that would only be partly true. 
 
Do you want to know the whole truth? 
 
The reality is that the reason I am able to get such crazy good results is because I approach marketing campaigns with a “systems mindset.” In other words, I seek to build a machine that operates like clockwork once properly programmed. 
 
It’s more of a scientific endeavor than a creative one. I’m slightly more left-brained than right. So this is how I compensate for not being a “creative genius.” I simply have to work harder… 
 
… but the funny thing is, my campaigns almost always outperform my more “creative” colleagues. So I’m fine with it.
 
There’s a lot of things I suck at in life (like grocery shopping, singing, car repairs, etc.)... but I have this webinar thing down to a science. So I’m going to summarize what I do for every webinar campaign I manage in case you want to hire me to do this for you.

 

Why don’t you use LeadPages?
 
LeadPages is great… I used them for years until I outgrew them and decided I was ready to wear underwear instead of pampers.
 
What am I talking about? Well, once you start getting into split-testing and doing deep advanced direct response marketing you’ll quickly realize why a “paint-by-number” tool like LeadPages doesn’t work well.
 
That’s why we use Unbounce. Yes, it’s 3 times as expensive as LeadPages. But there’s a reason why. It allows us to customize the page however we see fit.

How long will this take to get done? Sounds like a lot of work.
 
It is a lot of work -- which is why you don’t see more copywriters offering a package like this. It takes anywhere from 15-20 business days to get done.

 

Which webinar platform do you recommend?
 
 In my experience GoToWebinar and ClickMeeting are the best. I think the marketing for WebinarJam and Everwebinar is great but their product is a “B” while GoToWebinar and ClickMeeting is an “A.”

Getting people to register for your webinar is only HALF the battle… you also need to get them to show up! And to do that you must resell them on the value of the webinar. I use a modified version of Frank Kern’s Indoctrination Sequence, which looks like this:
 
Immediately: a “what to expect” on the webinar email after registering that resells them on the value of the webinar. It will also pre-position you as an authority in your field.
 
Day Before: an email that delivers value in advance. We’ll identify one of the objections, overcome it and provide value. Of course, we’ll also remind them when the webinar is.
 
Day Of: they will get 3 reminder emails. One first thing in the morning. One about an hour before and one 10 minutes before.
