Work smarter, not harder. You’ve heard that a million times. And while you’d like to just sit around and think of ways to work smarter you can’t because…well, you’re busy working harder. So when you find a tool that makes your life easier, helps you accomplish your goals and is cost effective you hold on to it for dear life. Email newsletters are one of those invaluable tools. They help make your life easier by accomplishing your sales and marketing goals without breaking the bank.
E-newsletters (email newsletters) are part of the ever evolving New Marketing world. It’s content marketing at its finest. They are one of the most effective ways of developing trust with customers while also providing them opportunities to do business with you on a regular basis.
When done right these newsletters create a win-win, the ultimate goal of any sales process. It’s a win for the reader because they receive valuable content. And it’s a win for you because you get more sales. But the key words are when done right. If you’re not careful you can quickly become just another obnoxious spammer and the world has more than enough of those.
How-To Create Valuable Content, Not Spam
The newsletters we’re talking about will arrive in a person’s inbox, along with several other emails. They will quickly decide if what you sent them is spam or not. If it even smells like spam they will not think twice before deleting it. So how do you make it look valuable to the reader? The answer: make it valuable. That’s right, the key here is not to make it look valuable because that is deceptive. You need to actually invest the time and money into creating something worth reading.
In fact, valuable content is what you’re reading right now. It’s not spam. It’s useful content that took time (over an hour including editing) and effort to create. I had to carefully design my message so that it would meet a need (more sales) of my target audience (business owners). That’s the difference between spamming and content marketing.
D.I.Y. or Hire a Freelance Copywriter?
If you have decent writing skills and the time to invest then you can write your own newsletter. How long will it take? It depends. It took me about an hour and fifteen minutes to write this article. If I had to gather information or insert graphics it would be closer to two hours. And newsletters involve much more time than a simple article like this. So it could take you 6 to 10 hours a month to publish your newsletter. It all depends on how long you want it to be, your writing experience and how tech-savvy you are.
But if you would rather poke yourself in the face with a soldering iron then spend 10 hours a month writing then you’ll probably want to hire a freelance copywriter. A good copywriter is worth his weight in gold. And if gold is going for $16,310.37 a pound that means I’m worth about $2.46 million (do the math if you really want to find out how much I weigh) but if you don’t have cash I’ll gladly accept any major credit card.
So if you would like to learn more about the benefits if what an email newsletter can do for you please contact me. I would be happy to schedule a free 10-15 minute meeting with you to find out more about your specific needs and how I can help make your life easier.
